Playtime


It is any parent’s most cherished moment when they can begin to play with their baby. Seeing the look of awed happiness on a baby’s face and hearing the unrestrained gurglings of laughter will make anyone smile – the innocent joy that a happy baby shows is something that is as pure as anything you can imagine.

Early on, a baby’s eyesight is rather poor, so playtime is limited to very simple toys and games – but this is not a drawback, as the reactions you will be able to observe from your young baby will prove. Bright colors and quiet simple music are the order of the day.  A hand held toy which you can move in and out of your baby’s line of vision is always appreciated.

At one month old they will be able to recognize your face, for example, so by holding a toy close to your face and moving it in and out of their field of vision you can play a kind of “peek-a-boo” game. They will quickly come to associate this enjoyment with you, and this is part of forming a loving bond with your child. Making clear facial expressions and happy noises will really make the best of this kind of game. An unbreakable mirror is also a good idea. Your child will not immediately recognize their own face, but they will find it captivating, and after a while they will begin to make the association between it and them.

This is important for the learning development of your child but, more importantly, it is great fun for them.
